The Southern African Communications Industries Association (SACIA) is delighted that its 10th anniversary celebration will coincide with the launch of the COMMTREND conference taking place at the Gallagher Conference Centre in Midrand from 22-23 October 2019. The event will showcase leading industry practitioners coming together to explore the trends and technologies shaping the future of the entertainment and communications industry.
Over the last decade, SACIA has established itself as the leading body for the communications and entertainment sector across Southern Africa. The three-day COMMTREND conference will feature presentations, discussions and workshops in which the social and technical trends shaping the communications industry will be unpacked and explored at the highest level. The SACIA 10th anniversary gala dinner will recognise and honour the great work done by its members and colleagues since its establishment in 2009.
The COMMTREND conference is structured to attract thought leaders from across the media and ICT sector, and to generate extensive coverage in specialist publications and the broader media.

Bringing a unique perspective of developing a company founded on the idea that if you have a cell phone, you can own and run your own film business, Anthony has a focussed drive to reshape the entrepreneurial drive in South Africa onto Social Capitalism.
As the current media capability lead for Accenture in South Africa, Roman is currently an international consultant providing strategic advice in the broadcasting business and related technology regarding future trends and positioning of OTTV services as well as in traditional broadcasting. With over 20 years or industry experience, Roman provides deep technology and operations insights to his clients.
Cavaglieri Swiss National Sound Archives
Stefano is CTO of the Swiss National Sound Archives. He holds a degree both in electroacoustics and in computer science. A long career started 40 years ago in the audio engineering field, then expanded to software design and all things digital storage, led him to be now recognized as one of the highest technical authorities in the multimedia archives community. In 2011, he was awarded the James A. Lindner prize for his contributions to research in the field of the technology of preservation of recorded sound. He serves as an active member of the AES, ARSC, and IASA technical committees.
TV Studio Lighting Infrastructure Consultant and Trainer
Angus is a Professional Lighting Designer and Studio Infrastructure Design consultant with 46 years’ experience in the Television industry. I initially focused on the lighting for productions in studio and on location, then moved over to designing new and re-designing older studio infrastructure to modernize TV Studios and to create new studio spaces. I consult across Africa in these aspects as well as conducting specialized Training Courses in my specializations.
The Wot-if? Trust
Nicci’s focus is to grow entrepreneurial businesses with the intention of creating jobs. She is involved in working with various institutions in the development of entrepreneurial eco-systems in the creative and tech space. Nicci currently manages the Business Development and Creative and Tech programmes on behalf of the Wot-if? Trust. The Wot-if? Trust run an open workspace and tech hub in Diepsloot.
Nicci holds two diplomas in marketing and public relations. She is a regular speaker and panelist at industry events, such as Entrepreneurship Avenue (a conference hosted by the Vienna University of Business and Economics) and TEDx TUWein.

Currently an AV Specialist at the CSIR I have done Live Events Technical Production course through the South African Roadies Association SARA and a number of AV related courses through SACIA. During my time at SARA I also volunteered as a FIFA Media and Broadcasting Volunteer for the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup Final Draw at the Sandton ICC, the FIFA Confederations Cup at Ellis Park Stadium, and the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa at Soccer City. I have worked as a Technical Producer for SABC Radio RBF before joining the CSIR.

Ted has spent a lifetime in the arts and media industry starting out at an early age in music, stage and theatre. He started his career in education, but he quickly moved into the music business in various roles as performer, composer, arranger and producer. From there he has worked intensively in all aspects of both radio and television as producer, director, host, manager and trainer at NBC. He has also been an active project coordinator of many arts and media development projects through NBC within the local industry and communities in Namibia with a key focus on youth. He co-founded and managed the on-going successful Media Arts Technology School at the national College of the Arts in Namibia. He is currently the Head of Technical Training & Performance Enhancement at NBC which focuses particularly on developing multimedia skills, roles, workflow and integration including mobile reporting across various platforms and channels at both corporate and community levels.

Lucy is a young well-known radio and television personality in Namibia. She is a dynamic host and media practitioner who started out in local commercial radio and later joined NBC to create the successful Lucy Squared youth radio series. In television she became the youngest woman to present interactive hosting for the popular Soccer Pitch and is a popular host for various national sporting and cultural events in Namibia. As a graduate from the national Collage of the Arts in media arts technology studies, she is also a fully accredited trainer in mobile reporting skills through Deutsche Welle Academy – Africa. Her current post is that of media coordinator tasked with assisting the planning and production of multimedia mobile reporting by field producers for the 10 radio stations of the NBC Radio Services. As understudy to the NBC Performance Enhancement team and part of their corporate responsibility program she is also directly involved in cascading mobile reporting skills to the community and youth in particular.

Martin Pienaar is a CA with a wealth of experience in financial services and consulting. He has launched internet banking services and digitised legacy banking channels and products. David Larsen is Managing Director of Africa Media Online an organisation that specializes in digital archiving. He and his team have also been involved in spearheading some of South Africa’s largest and most significant digitisation projects.

Lara is also the co-founder of the Pan-African not-for-profit, The Ladima Foundation that supports women in the film and related industries.

Claude-Hélène Mayer (Dr. habil., PhD, PhD) is a Professor in Industrial and Organisational Psychology at the Department of Industrial Psychology and People Management at the University of Johannesburg, an Adjunct Professor at the Europa Universität Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), Germany and a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Management at Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa. She holds a Ph.D. in psychology (University of Pretoria, South Africa), a Ph.D. in management (Rhodes University, South Africa), a Doctorate in political sciences (Georg-August-Universität, Göttingen, Germany), and a Habilitation with a Venia Legendi (Europa Universität Viadrina, Germany) in psychology with focus on work, organisational, and cultural psychology. Her research focuses on women in leadership, transcultural salutogenesis, transforming negative emotions and shame, transcultural conflict management and mediation, psychobiography and cultures and workplaces in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
George started at the SABC in 1981. He has 38 years in the broadcast industry. He has worked at the SABC, Video Lab, TV Africa and Red Pepper Pictures. He has extensive experience with video over IP. He planned and implemented the migration from SDI to a video over IP system based on SMPTE 2110 for Newzroom Afrika.

Tim Genders is the COO of Project Isizwe and passionate about bring the next billion on line.
He has been with Project Isizwe for the last 3 years taking responsibility for the management of one of the largest free Wi-Fi projects in Africa.
Tim graduated from Oxford University in 1989 with a 1st class honours degree in Engineering Science. Tim came to South Africa in 1994 and developed a career in IT. He was one of the founders of BCX in 2000.
In 2006 Tim set up a Airband, wireless ISP business in Durban that was sold to HeroTel in 2015.
Tim has been the chair of South Afirca Wireless Access Providers Association since 2016.
